SALARY: DS-09: $32,361.00 - $41,697.00 per annum
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Unlimited
HOURS: Monday through Friday, 8:45 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
FUNCTIONS: The incumbent under the supervision of the Head, Adaptive Services
Division, serves as Access Specialist providing a variety of services to provide equal access to
the Library's resources including its print materials, databases, and the Internet, by the public,
especially older adults and people with disabilities of all ages. The incumbent is responsible
for the daily operations of the assistive technology resources; develops and coordinates
system-wide customer and staff training sessions related to assistive technology; assists
neighborhood libraries with the development of assistive technology programs for older adults
and people with disabilities; answers reference questions concerning use of assistive
technology for patrons and staff; develops assistive technology informational brochures and
news articles for DCPL and ASD newsletters and works with the Marketing &
Communications Department to publicize assistive technology offerings; coordinates DCPL
assistive technology activities with those of cooperating agencies serving older adults and
people with disabilities; and cooperates with the DCPL Information Technology staff in
identifying upgrades of all Adaptive Services Division software and in making DCPL web
pages, SIRSI, and online catalog accessible to assistive technology and suggests new software
and hardware purchases; prepares needed reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have one (1) year of specialized
experience equivalent to the DS-7 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that
equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform
successfully the duties of the position. OR for DS-09 level, a master's degree from an
accredited college or university in a field related to the position.

KSA #1: Knowledge of assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, and resources
for evaluation of new technologies.
KSA #2: Knowledge of the technology initiatives, programs and services of the National
Library Service/LC and other sources of information services in formats accessible to older
adults and people with disabilities.
KSA #3: Working knowledge with personal computer hardware and assistive technology
software.
KSA #4: Ability to work and communicate effectively with internal and external
customers including ability to communicate effectively at all levels orally and in writing.
