Fellow PCC Patricians,

the Steering Committee ( http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/poco.html ) as
well as the Cooperative Cataloging Team (
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/naco/coopcat.html ) . Please visit
each of these Web pages and see if you can identify the illuminati of
the PCC Program.
The summary of the PCC Participants Meeting has been posted and
includes a review of the highlights presented during this ALA event.
This meeting focused on follow-up to the CONSER Summit and included
presentations by Les Hawkins, CONSER Coordinator, Regina Reynolds (ISSN
Office), and Valerie Bross (UCLA)
( http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/pccpart04a.html ) The hardworking and
industrious PCC glitterati were presented with numerous certificates of
appreciation. For the complete rendering of these certificates, please
visit the full length report.
The BIBCO-At-Large meeting held at the Marriott Grand Lakes in Orlando
featured presentations by Cynthia Whitacre, an overview of what has been
accomplished with the BIBCO Training Manual, and the presentation by
Judy Kuhagen (Senior Policy Specialist, CPSO) on recent rule revisions
and how they impact serials cataloging. Kuhagen briefly discussed
future cataloging rule developments and the eventual issuance of AACR3.

The CONSER-At-Large meeting summary has been prepared and according to
CONSER Coordinator, Les Hawkins, the report reflects the emphasis in
which CONSER is hoping to be effective in influencing future rule
development, particularly as it relates to the FRBR model. Please open
the full report at:
http://www.loc.gov/acq/conser/CONSERat-lgJune04.html .
The CONSER Task Force on Publication Patterns and Holdings meeting
summary is also available online at
http://www.loc.gov/acq/conser/summarypubpat6-04.html . This summary
highlights what took place during the Orlando meeting and future
developments for publication patterns, particularly in encouraging
vendors' compliance; the report includes the decision to combine two
meetings into one.
The Standing Committee on Training (SCT) has issued the minutes from
its meeting during ALA Annual. Please visit
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/sct04a.html to read the full report of
the discussions that were held in Orlando.
The Final Report of the PCC Standing Committee on Training's Task Group
on the PCC Role in Metadata Training has been issued and the Standing
Committee on Training's response and recommendations to the PCC Policy
Committee are now available at:
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/tgmetadata-rpt_sctresponse.pdf . The
final report recommended that the PCC monitor, but not become an active
participant in any descriptive metadata training. Nonetheless, the SCT
does feel that the PoCo should continue to monitor the needs and demands
for training in this area and consider the role of the Program while
updating the PCC's strategic and tactical plans.
The PCC Statistics are once again current and are available through the
PCC Home Page.

The SACO Web resources are continually revised and broken links
repaired to reflect new sources and servers. Please use this valuable
resource maintained by Adam L. Schiff, University of Washington, for
many of your electronic resource citation needs when proposing new or
changed subject headings. This list is now up-to-date and is available
at: http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/saco/resources.html
All NACO reviewers should watch the NACO Home Page (
http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/naco.html ) where a link will be
provided outlining the procedures to follow when reviewing authority
records in OCLC using the new Connexion browser.
Changes in the list of liaisons are ongoing and are continually being
updated. As always, please let me know of any additions or corrections
to the liaisons from your institution by means of direct communication
through email to me ( [log in to unmask] ). Let's keep the list of the
literati liaisons current.
Your cognoscitive reporter,
John N. Mitchell
