NLS has been asked to publicize the following employment opportunity.
Communication Center and Senior Services Director State Services for the Blind.
The Department of Employment and Economic Development, State Services for the Blind (SSB), is
looking for an individual to provide leadership, coordination, and management of statewide services to
thousands of blind, visually impaired, print handicapped Minnesotans, and their families.
This individual will lead the Senior Services (enables elderly blind Minnesotans to live independently)
and Communications Center Units (involved in transcription of print to braille and audio; lending of
material and equipment; broadcast of material).
This is a classified managerial position (Senior State Program Administrative Manager) with
compensation of $56,731-$81,620/year. This position reports to the
director of the Minnesota State Services for the Blind. Additional information regarding SSB may be found at the following website:
The successful candidate should have an advanced degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or Library
Science (or closely related); and five years of supervisory or high level professional experience in a
rehabilitation or specialized library setting.
Include a description of your qualifications as follows:
Provide specific examples of program(s) or project(s) which you have managed that involved multiple
issues and stakeholders.
Provide specific examples of developing and administering programs, and development and monitoring
Describe your leadership style and give examples of your leadership roles that have included building
collaborative relationships with stakeholders, employees and volunteers.
Describe your experience managing budgets, grants and contracts, information resource management,
and personnel management including number and job titles of staff supervised.
Describe your knowledge of issues within the blind community, community rehabilitation programs,
and other facilities providing services to blind and visually impaired persons, and producing and
distributing accessible materials needed by blind and visually impaired persons.
