The content and search interface to Ockham Alert has been enhanced. See:
http://dewey.library.nd.edu/morgan/ockham-alert/
More specifically, the index now contains about 400K records
representing about two months of the latest data from about 175 OAI
repositories (as well as a smattering of MARC data from the Notre Dame
catalog). It takes about forty-five minutes to update the database from
the repositories. Using swish, it takes about two hours to index the
entire database.
The search interface now sports free text searching as well as all
other features of swish (field searching, Boolean operations, etc.). I
also added a suggest feature along the lines of Google's Did You Mean
service. Thus, the following searches return decent results, in SRU
XML, with greater detail:
* butterflies
* title=butterflies
* mars
* "mars mission"
* origami and mathematics
* creator=sagan
* description="beutiful photos"
* spellin correction
The CGI script falls down on searches with very large result sets. I
expect this to be resolved as greater SRU functionality is incorporated
into the system, and when I can dictate, in a kosher (SRU) way, the
number of results returned.
Another next step is to get up with the various NSF projects I have
previously contacted and share the wealth. This also means I need to
create a distribution. "Release early. Release often."
