DUTIES:

The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office of the Chief Information Officer,
has professional librarians assigned to the following areas: the Technical
Library, the Public Document Room and the ADAMS Support Center. The incumbent for
this position will be assigned to the Public Document Room and ADAMS
Support Center. Incumbent assists in providing user orientation; provides
reference and bibliographic assistance to the public and staff; performs
manual and on-line searches in ADAMS for specific documents or groups of
documents; and monitors contracts for the Public Document Room. Incumbent also
provides reference information and on-line literature searches for NRC staff and
for other government agencies, libraries, learning institutions, and private
industry.


QUALIFICATIONS:

GG-09: Master's Degree in Library Science

GG-11: Master's Degree in Library Science and one year of professional experience
in a scientific or technical library at the GG-09 level or equivalent.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that demonstrates knowledge of the theory,
principles, and techniques of library science sufficient to conduct a reference
interview, interpret information requests, document and literature searching, and
bibliographic services. Experience demonstrates ability to display initiative,
tact, and resourcefulness in a high profile environment.

Candidates must have at least one year of experience at the next lower grade
level or equivalent by the closing date or no later than 30 calendar days after
the closing date of the vacancy announcement (or after the date you submit your
application for an open-until-filled announcement)and before placement in the
position.

A transferable security clearance from another agency or a background
investigation leading to a clearance is required for all new hires. To begin work
at the NRC without a security clearance, you must be granted a temporary waiver of
the required clearance, referred to as a 145(b) waiver. To qualify for a 145(b)
waiver you need favorable education verification, and reference, credit, and
criminal history checks. If a waiver is granted, a background investigation
leading to a security clearance is required for continued employment. Your
ability to qualify for the waiver or successfully complete the background
investigation may be delayed or denied if you have resided outside the U.S. for an
extended period of time.
