Network Bulletin No. 04-54
Date: September 3, 2004
Subject: CMLS
Index term: Canceled or suspended patrons
All CMLS subscribers who are in a canceled or suspended status as of September 30, 2004, will be deleted
from CMLS. The__ CMLS Handbook__ sections below explain this policy.
3.3.3 Cancel Service. At the end of the suspension period of 120 days, a subscriber is canceled, but the
subscriber's record remains in the file until the end of the fiscal year (September 30). This procedure is
followed so that subscribers will be included in NLS statistics as active readers for the year. All
subscribers in a canceled status on September 30 are deleted from CMLS.
3.3.4 Fiscal-Year-End Cancel. At the end of the fiscal year (September 30), each library receives a report
entitled __CMLS Fiscal Year-End Deleted Patrons.__ The report date will be the last working day of
September. Libraries can use the report to verify patron status and compare it to their system's patron data.
If you have canceled or suspended subscribers who should not be deleted, please change their statuses to
"active" or "resume" by Wednesday, September 22, 2004.
To review patrons who are in a suspended or canceled status, log on to the network library services web site
at <www.loc.gov/pics>, link to NLS WebNet, then navigate to the CMLS Research screen. Put a check
mark in the box labeled "Select All Patrons in Suspended Status" or "Select All Patrons in Canceled
Status," then click the "Submit Query" button.
CMLS responds with a list of patrons in either a suspended or canceled status. If you want to change the
status to "active" or "resume," select the CMLS Options Menu. Enter the subscriber's ID, select the "Click
Here to Begin" button and change the patron's status to "Active" or "Resume."
