But you can assign short names to them, and use these in the URI.

Just throw UTF-8 in a query at any SRU server.

Why does SVG have such a restriction? It seems very shortsighted.

Considering how much garbage HTML parsers have to deal with I would be
absolutely shocked if this was respected.
