I don't understand your question.

You don't need to use it for SRW/SRU, because you can say that as
<serverInfo protocol="SRW/U">

Or if you do want to say it in links:

   <link type="sru">http://foo.bar.com:80/baz</link>
   <link type="z3950">z3950://foo.bar.com:80/baz</link>
