$44,848 to $59,798 (Grade S24)
Responsible for the overall management of the Access Services
branch, which has a special emphasis on serving older library
customers and people with disabilities. The branch has a staff of
approximately 15 employees and circulates approximately 150,000
items per year. Operates as the leader of the branch management
team and is accountable for the effective running of the branch.
Ensures that members of the public receive courteous and efficient
service, and is responsible for seeing that the branch is well-
maintained and that the collection and equipment serves community
needs. Trains and counsels staff and evaluates their performance;
analyzes workload to ensure efficient staff scheduling that
corresponds to hours of peak demand; and implements system
policies and forwards recommendations for appropriate changes to
Library Administration. Provides direct service to the public using
both print and non-print materials in response to patron requests.
Works with the National Library Services of the Library of Congress
and the Virginia State Library for the Visually and Physically
Handicapped. Works with community groups to enhance the image
of the branch in the community, and may serve on system-wide or
community project teams as appropriate.
Master's degree from an accredited library school and two years of
professional library experience, including one year in a supervisory
Certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for the Certification of
Librarians is required within three months of hire date.
Public library experience in a variety of leadership positions.
Experience working with community groups or library support
organizations. Experience working with people with disabilities.
