OCLC will be piloting a new service this spring to help libraries
manage
their licensed electronic content, including electronic journals and
databases. Through this survey, we are asking for your input on the
concept. The pilot will include OCLC automatically setting holdings in
WorldCat for the electronic journal subscriptions of participating
pilot
libraries. Once the holdings are set, they will be updated regularly
based on changes to the titles and coverage available from the source,
without the need for library intervention.
By automating the setting and maintenance of holdings for electronic
content in OCLC WorldCat, the service will offer benefits including:
-- Increasing patron satisfaction by surfacing e-journal collection on
the public Web via Google and Yahoo! through OCLC's Open WorldCat
program
-- Increasing visibility of your e-journal collection for your patrons
on WorldCat in OCLC FirstSearch
-- Increasing awareness of e-journal collections when fulfilling ILL
requests
-- Providing comprehensive analysis of your entire collection through
OCLC's new Collection Analysis service
The following URL leads to a brief survey, which will be available for
input until March 18, 2005.
