Subject: Automated Copy Allotment System (ACAS)
Index Term: Web-based system for book delivery verification
The current book delivery verification system is to change to a paperless web-based system. The
web-based system will benefit libraries in several ways. The web-based system provides an
opportunity for libraries to maintain existing schedules, create new and flexible schedules or abandon
Book shipments can be verified by the following. A library can either check a box indicating that
all copies were received or enter the quantity that was actually received; the system will also accept
a list of books and will indicate that all books were delivered in full.
Once a book delivery is verified, that book disappears from the list unless this default behavior is
overridden by selecting specific book numbers.
Replacement of non-delivered copies will no longer come from the multi-state centers. When a copy
or copies of a title are missing, notification of that shortage is immediately forwarded to the producer
that shipped the book. They will then ship the missing copies directly to the library, thus assuring
faster turnaround time.
To access the new book delivery verification system, login to the 'Network Library Services' web
page at http://www.loc.gov/pics. You can also use a help screen, located near the bottom of the book
delivery verification screen.
