Notice of Vacancy

Title: Assistant Director LBH
Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience
Location: NJ Library for the Blind and Handicapped
Reporting to the Director of NJLBH the assistant supports and assists the Library Director in
the management of the State's public library for individuals with print disabilities, which
operations include but are not limited to the provision of Braille, Talking Books on cassette,
large print and multimedia to eligible individuals, as well as a radio reading service, and
support services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities and the public libraries that
serve them. Acts in place of the Director in his or her absence. Manages the daily
administration, personnel supervision, facilities and operations of the Library and its 33 full
and part-time staff members, as well as volunteers, in compliance with State and National
Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped guidelines. Supervises Readers'
Services and Youth Services staff, programs and publications, providing leadership in
reference, readers' advisory, collection development, bibliography and customer service.
Assists with budgeting, reporting and setting of section and departmental goals and
objectives. Participates in planning for meeting current and long-term needs and
responsibilities of the program. Represents the Director at outreach and professional
functions as needed.
Possession of or eligibility for a valid certificate as a professional librarian issued by Thomas
Edison State College.
Four years of professional librarian experience, including at least one year in a supervisory
capacity. Experience working in an NLS network library or an organization serving the blind
will be given strong consideration.
Knowledge of Spanish an asset. Knowledge of Deaf Culture, Hard of Hearing issues and the
ability to communicate in American Sign Language an asset.
