I would.

However, given that the changes proposed for 1.1 of xlink would solve
this problem -- that the spec mandates the xlink:type attribute, and
that whoever wrote the schema for it didn't like that so used a default
attribute instead, which means documents that use xlink but leave out
the xlink:type attribute aren't valid without the presence of the schema
-- perhaps it's best to just wait a bit and see.
