Reading the paper, "Using MARC 21 with FRBR: Record Configurations"
available online at:
http://www.loc.gov/marc/marbi/2005/2005-report02.pdf. was both
interesting and informative. It is well written.
The paper outlines the changes which would be required in MARC21 to
implement FRBR display, discussing two possible means of
implementation.
Method A would have Work/Expression records in as authority records,
and method B would have Work/Expression records as bibliographic
records.
I can see total confusion, with Work/Expression records being used as
bibliographic records for manifestions, if they are in the
bibliographic files of bibliographic utilities. Since most small
libraries will have only one manifestion of most expressions, these
new types of records would cause much less confusion in the authority
files of LC and bibliographic utilities.
