Digital Library Program Manager
Preferred appointment level: Associate Librarian IV to Librarian III with a salary range of $52,620 to $76,860.
The Libraries of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) seek applications from highly motivated, creative, and experienced library professionals to join an enthusiastic staff in supporting excellence in the research library of a rapidly growing, highly ranked university.
Responsibilities of the Position
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Technology Services, provides leadership for all activities associated with the Libraries' Digital Library Program, including: curation of the Libraries' current digital assets; retrospective ingest of the Libraries' legacy digital assets; development of effective ongoing ingest, management, and preservation procedures and best practices; creation of digital library presentation layers and services in support of teaching and learning; identification of new collections for digitization in consultation with collection managers; identification of financial and human resources necessary to support new digital library initiatives; selection of appropriate standards; and continuous evaluation of new and emerging digital library technology, processes, and standards for asset production, description, and management. Also, develops related library policies; documents best practices; forges collaborations with faculty and other libraries and cultural institutions; prepares grant proposals; manages projects with external partners, supervises contracts with vendors; and identifies potential funding agencies.
Works closely with the IT Department's Digital Library Architect, metadata specialists from the Metadata Services Department, and content and service specialists from public services departments to meet Digital Library Program goals and objectives. Coordinates digital library activities across these departments in support of the goal of integrating digital library collections and services throughout the Libraries. Takes an active role in informing staff about digital library standards and best practices. Supervises the Digital Library Program Analyst. Serves as Chair of the Digital Library Program Working Group and convenes teams as necessary to complete projects. Represents the Libraries and actively participates in local, regional, and national organizations and professional meetings.
Required Qualifications
Professional degree from a library school or other appropriate degree or equivalent experience in one or more fields relevant to digital library services. Substantial, recent experience with, and knowledge of trends and issues in, digital library technologies, metadata standards, and issues. Strong leadership capabilities and demonstrated experience creating digital library services in support of teaching and learning. Demonstrated planning and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with domain experts in a wide variety of fields and work closely with technical staff. Demonstrated ability to think strategically. Capacity to thrive in an environment of change . Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
