My name is John Roy, and I am a Librarian for Savannah River College in
Augusta, GA (a Business College). I'm new here, and in the process of
placing Spine Labels on all of the books, as well as editing/inputting
information into the general catalog (I am not naturally a Technical
Services Librarian). I took a class while in college from Heidi Hoerman, but
it has been a while. I feel comfortable cataloging in Dewey, however, LC is
giving me problems when the book is not cataloged on their website. Let me
provide an example of what I would need help with:

.R67

1988

 

If a book is not cataloged, I am able to figure out the first part of the
Barcode should be, such as TK7888.3, but I am having trouble determining
what numbers should follow the first letter of the author's last name; in
this case, a 67 follows the .R which stands in for Rosch. Truthfully, I do
not like assigning numbers indiscriminately, so if someone could provide me
with some simple guidance for doing this, I would greatly appreciate it.
