The Archivistsí Toolkit Specification Team is pleased to announce the public
release of the functional specification for the Archivistsí Toolkit system,
available at: http://archiviststoolkit.org/ATspecification/index.html .
The Archivistsí Toolkit (AT) will be an open source, integrated archival
management application that streamlines workflows and standardizes archival
information. The AT will provide a single, consistent, and reliable means for
managing information related to accessioning, description, resource location,
and donors. In addition, the Toolkit will support a variety of outputs,
including EAD (Encoded Archival Description) encoded finding aids and METS
(Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard) records.
The AT functional specification adheres to the IEEE Recommended Practice for
Software Requirements Specifications
(http://users.snip.net/~gbooker/INFO627/IEEE-830-1998.pdf). The AT functional
specification represents a conceptual view of the application. The public
version of this specification is abridged, omitting task lists, user/application
response sequences, data flow diagrams, and screen prototypes for each
functional area, and the full data dictionary.
The Specification Team recognizes the importance of making the specification
available to the general archival community for comment. Comments / questions
about the specification are most welcomed. Those received prior to September 6
would be helpful. All comments should be sent to [log in to unmask] .
The AT Specification will be the focus of the SAA program session no. 701,
9:45-11:15 a.m., Saturday, August 20 in New Orleans. Members of the AT Project
Team will present an overview of the specification. Plenty of time will be
provided for comments from the audience.
