Many thanks to all who have given me help thus far! It has all given me valuable context.
Michele, in response to your question, I suppose when I get right down to it I am most concerned that the html display the contents info in columnar form, to be better equipped to accommodate the display of intellectual arrangements. I'd prefer to keep the EAD encoding itself as simple as possible, since I am responsible for training other processors in EAD.
Driving the whole question is everyone's favorite issue, intellectual vs. physical arrangement. For the last year, my institution has been encoding lists with the <container type="box"> assigned a <c0#> as the parent of <c0#><container type="folder">. I want to use the approach with 2 container types for each <c0#>, and am putting together a package of information to show what changes we need to make and what tools we need to use to do it (and see how easy it is!)
A phase of this change in procedure would be the consideration of many finding aids that are encoded with the "Box" container assigned to a <c0#>. I imagine that there would not be any way to automate the encoding change, but if anyone has done this before, or knows of any programs out there that might help us, please let me know!
Thanks all for your help and feedback!
Audrey

Audrey --
Are you referring to using a table in the HTML output, or using a <table>
element in the EAD source document? And could you explain more fully what
it is you're wanting to do?
