This is assuming of course that OpenSearch doesn't evolve more bells &
whistles as they are needed by their user community. For example I believe
the next version of OpenSearch will support search extensions: bundling CQL
over OpenSearch, hmmm there's some possibility there...
It seems to me this is a fundamental difference in the approaches taken by
SRW/U and OpenSearch. SRW/U started with the aim of simplifying Z39.50 for
the web; while OpenSearch started by trying to create a simple protocol for
enabling search on the web.
It would nice to see more cross fertilization between these two worlds. It's
particularly encouraging to see OpenSearch folks commenting in library
developer's blogs [1,2]. Hopefully we'll see more movement in the other
direction as well, a la OCLC's efforts with Google, Amazon and Yahoo.
