We realize that there is a need for a transformation from MODS to Dublin
Core. The transformations (as in XSLT stylesheets) that we have provided
have been going through MARCXML. That is, take a MARC record (in ISO 2709
syntax), and transform to MODS by going through MARCXML (conversion to
MARCXML syntax then apply MARCXML to MODS stylesheet) . Certainly there
are some native MODS records that have been created under various
initiatives that may need to be transformed to Dublin Core. The most
obvious use is to expose MODS records using OAI; since simple Dublin Core
is required for OAI, that transformation is needed.
We are about to start working on such a transformation tool, but wondered
if anyone out there has already done it. If so, please email me either
through the list or privately.
