In case anyone is interested:
In my copy of the LC/NACO file, I find 62,409 records with the institution
code of interest in 040 $a; 19,782 of these have 130 fields. Of these,
1,651 contain an uppercase letter followed immediately by a space or a
closing parens.
Many of these 1,651 headings are just what we've been talking about:
Amors og Balletmesterens Luner (Choreographic work : Lander, H after Galeotti)
Burmese pwe (Choreographic work : Lewisohn, I)
Harry was a hero but he died (Choreographic work : Marks, J)
M-o-o-n-b-r-a-i-n (Choreographic work : King, K)
Some of the 1,651 headings reported by this crude test are in fact innocent
(at least in terms of what we've been talking about):
Bal sous Louis XIV (Choreographic work : Perrot)
Shelter (Phase II) (Choreographic work : Ohara)
TV tumor (Choreographic work : Weber and Patiris)
Mr. XYZ (Choreographic work : Feld)
DeadDDogsDon'tDance:DjamesDjoyceDeaD (Choreographic work : Lauwers)
And some few (my guess is no more than a dozen) appear to have far more
uppercase letters than a well-constructed heading ought:
CASE HISTORY NO - (Choreographic work : SOKOLOW)
FLAMENCO (Choreographic work : BRUNELLESCHI)
GIRL IN MASK (Choreographic work : BRUNNER)
Anyone who wants the list of 1,651 possibilities can have it. Given what's
visible in this sample, my suspicion is that a review of all 19,782 records
with 130s would turn up more interesting things. But who's got the time?
As a footnote, I offer the following, just in case there's a suspicion that
*all* of these initials are unnecessary:
Coppélia (Choreographic work : Saracco, G)
Coppélia (Choreographic work : Saracco, L)
