NACO Training Course at the Library of Congress (LC), Washington, DC, February 13-17, 2006
The Cooperative Cataloging Team is offering a five-day NACO training course at the Library of Congress, February 13-17, 2006. The training course will be of greatest interest to new or current NACO libraries who have a small number of catalogers in need of training, and who do not anticipate having a NACO trainer visit their institution to work with a larger group. Each institution will be responsible for its participants' travel and accommodation costs. However, there is no fee for the class itself.
Participants will be asked to download and print training manuals to bring with them. Both OCLC and RLIN training manuals are available for use in this event.
Requirements to Register for the NACO Training Course:
New libraries must submit an application to join the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) before they may receive NACO training. Current NACO partners are asked to submit an application to update their institution's information with the following: the names of the director, the technical services administrator, the NACO contact, and the backup person for the NACO contact. Under new agreements in the PCC, NACO institutions are required to commit to contribution goals and to name a backup for the NACO contact to promote program continuity in the event of staff changes. The online application form appears at:
Before submitting a PCC application, new institutions are encouraged to contact the NACO training coordinator for this Institute to discuss any questions (see below for the contact information). When your institution's participants are approved to participate in the training class, please send in pertinent background information on each participant. We have a separate application form for the Institute plus pertinent information about the NACO program at: http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/naco/instappl.html.
Expressions of interest in the training class and all requests for more information should be directed to the NACO training coordinators by Friday, December 16, 2005. The deadline for submitting applications is also on Friday, December 16, 2005.
The NACO training coordinator will confirm participation in the training course by Wednesday, January 4, 2006, so that participants have the necessary lead time to make their hotel and travel arrangements to Washington, DC. (Please do not make travel and hotel arrangements before receiving confirmation). Participants may make their own hotel arrangements or reserve rooms at Capitol Hill Suites, which is offering the government rate ($187 single room rate; $ 207 double plus 14.5 per cent tax) through January 13, 2006. To make a reservation, register on the online meeting reservation page. Information on online registration at Capitol Hill Suites will be sent with the confirmation notice.
