MACHINES AND ACCESSORIES REPORT
Date: December 30, 2005
Subject: Ordering C-1 parts over the Web
The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) is pleased to
announce that beginning December 12, 2005, repair groups and libraries can start ordering parts
for repairing C-1 players online. Repair groups will use the web site
http://www.loc.gov/nlsparts, and libraries will use the Network Library Services web site
http://www.loc.gov/pics. The ordering process for libraries and machine-lending agencies
(MLAs) appears in Network Bulletin 05-63.
Network libraries and MLA staff are encouraged to assist their repair volunteers and groups in
ordering parts, especially those volunteers who do not have computers or Internet connections.
NLS will continue to accept orders placed by e-mail, fax, and telephone, but urges volunteers
with the resources to order online because the process is user friendly. Please report to
[log in to unmask] problems or concerns.
We appreciate the work of the machine-repair and librarian representatives on the National
Audio Equipment Advisory Committee who participated in the beta test. We also want to thank
the Inventory Management Section head and the parts specialists for collaborating in developing
this Web Ordering and Warehousing (WOW) function that will enable all of us to better track the
NLS parts inventory and to facilitate a smoother parts ordering process.
We also would like to thank Steve Austin, editor of__ Fully Charged,__ for his article in the
October issue about this new function and his detailed explanation of the various screens and
instructions for ordering parts over the Web. He has revised and updated that article to appear in
the January issue of __Fully Charged.__ A copy of the article, which includes detailed
instructions for submitting an order, is attached.
