Hi Manon,
Years ago, when RLG had not yet developed its Authority Assistant,
Michael Kaplan (then head of Database Management for Harvard College
Library, I think that was his title) encouraged us to add OCLC as an
option for NACO record creation so we could use their excellent macro.
Once he set everything up for us, we could choose between OCLC and RLIN
for each new NACO record we created.
Before going ahead with this arrangement, I checked with Sherman
Clarke. (He was reviewing our NACO contributions then, so it meant he
had to access our saved records in two places rather than one.) He
graciously agreed to the change.
So, I guess in the olden days it was okay, because neither Michael nor
Sherman indicated there was a problem with it, and the cops never showed up.
Once RLIN implemented their own automatic authority record generator, we
drifted away from the practice of using OCLC for this.
Are you thinking about using both utilities? How come? (I'm just curious)
