I'd like to second Robert Maxwell's comments. It's great to see these
practices being written down! But I share his concern about the draft
RI's direction _not_ to make reciprocal 5XX headings in situations where
we have been accustomed to do so in the past.
The preamble to the draft as posted on CPSO's website appears to make
this change in practice explicit:
"3. Provide specific instructions for relating a manuscript heading to
the heading for the work contained in the manuscript, using a 667 note
in the authority record instead of the 5XX reference some catalogers
have provided."
Could we hear some explanation as to the rationale for this approach? We
have also found these reciprocal headings to be very useful, and would
prefer to continue making them.
