You have to choose your ditch to die in. I don't think this is ours.
Making node names unique when designing a schema isn't all that bad a thing,
in its own right. If it prevents schema users from having to deal with
incompetence on the part of vendors holding large market share, then it is a
nice thing to do for the folks who come after you.
