I'd probably stick it in an <identifier type="opus"> element (note the
type list in the MODS user guidelines says it's not meant to be limited
to the values listed there, so the type="opus" is legal).
An opus number is also frequently present in a uniform title as defined
in AACR2, which would be recorded in <titleInfo type="uniform">, but
that's probably not quite what you're looking for.
