Come join the NRL Research Library and the NRL Edison Chapter of Sigma Xi
for a celebration of one of the greatest, yet little known, men in science -
James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879). Referred to as the 'father of modern
physics', Maxwell's theories have paved the way for most modern technologies
including TV, microwaves, mobile phones, nuclear energy, and color
photography. Albert Einstein referred to Maxwell's theories as "the most
profound and the most fruitful that physics has experienced since the time
of Newton."

Everyone is invited to join in this world-wide celebration of his 175th
birthday (http://www.maxwellyear2006.org/) on Wednesday, June 14th at 2pm at
the Naval Research Laboratory (after SLA has finished in Baltimore). Our
special guest speaker will be Professor Francis Everitt who is a faculty
member at Stanford University in the department of physics and an active
member of the Gravity Probe-B program. Prof. Everitt is a noted scholar of
Maxwell and has written four books about Maxwell's science and life.
