Recently the Director for Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access at the
Library of Congress announced that the Library would cease to provide
controlled series access in the bibliographic records that its catalogers
produce. The catalogers would cease to produce series authority records as
well. The effective date of this change was moved back to June 1, 2006 from
May 1, 2006.

GPO is not making any changes to its current series authority practice at
this time. GPO is, however, taking this opportunity to solicit the opinion
of the depository community and to evaluate the costs and benefits of
