Registration Open for NFAIS Forum on Creating and Collecting New Forms of Content. Registration Discount Available Through May 12th. The preliminary program, registration form and other logistical information is available at: http://www.nfais.org/events/event_details.cfm?id=36 .
The Changing Face of Content: Creating Innovative Information Services for the 21st Century will be held on June 2, 2006 at PALINET Headquarters, in Philadelphia, PA, from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
Whether you are an information provider seeking to offer the most current and comprehensive content, an information professional responsible for collection development, or a technology developer working to remain state-of-art in a rapidly changing information environment, this meeting will provide you with the basics to that you need to succeed.
The program will begin with an overview of the new forms of content - the "born digital" as well as that which is newly digitized. This will be followed by a discussion on the incorporation of sophisticated user-generated content (blogs, podcasts, etc.) into new collections. Representatives from academia, libraries and commercial publishing will discuss the digital collections that they are building to meet the content requirements of their specific user communities - including requirements for access, format, and functionality.
The afternoon will begin with a new report on emerging business collaborations between libraries, museums, archives and commercial organizations in the development of digital collections and what is required to build viable partnerships. The remainder of the day will focus on the practical issues to be considered: the technology challenges to digitizing legacy content or engineering new digital content; the long-term policy issues that exist with regard to the use and re-use of content; and the new business models required to meet the information needs of the individual user.
Register early, as seating is limited. Before May 12, 2006, NFAIS members pay $195 and non-members pay $245 (registration fee includes continental breakfast, a box lunch and an afternoon refreshment break). After May 12, 2006 NFAIS members pay $245 and non-members pay $295.
