I received the following query from Lillian Perricone, a cataloger who
is not (yet!) a NACO librarian and thought I'd call on the expertise of
the PCC List to see if anyone can help Lillian out. If you think you
could help her with name authority work for the various WPA
organizations, or have any advice for her, please contact her directly
([log in to unmask]) and not via the list, as she is not a list
member.
Thanks,

Subject: Authorities for WPA publications
Hello! I am a new rare book cataloger working at the Bienes Center for
the Literary Arts in Fort Lauderdale. My curator has a accepted a
large donation of WPA documents. I am beginning to tackle this
collection and need some guidance. Many of the titles are not in OCLC.
I have found that the WPA and its state and other units are rather a
tangled bunch of
organizational names. On top of that, I discovered that catalogers
came up with unique ways to handle multiple name changes and their
choice of headings may have complied with older rules or local rules.
I also saw many inconsistencies in the LC Authority File as well. Do
you know of any authorities librarian who may specialize in WPA
documents or government bodies?
I would appreciate receiving any recommendations you might have on my
topic.
Thanks in advance,
Lillian Perricone
