The PREMIS Working Group has received the 2006 Society of American
Archivists Preservation Publication award for the PREMIS Data Dictionary.

The notification letter says the following:

"Dear PREMIS Working Group members:

'The award is offered annually to a work that contributes to the
advancement of the theory and practice of preservation in archives
institutions by introducing new preservation theories, methods, or
techniques; by codifying principles and practices of archives
preservation; by presenting the results of innovative research on matters
related to archives preservation; by investigating preservation issues of
current interest and importance to the archival community; or by studying
aspects of the history of the archives profession.' For more infomration

Our committee agreed with the two individuals who nominated your work who
recognized the enormous contribution made by the working group, especially
the principals, in creating this tool.  It is applicable across a broad
range of institutions, domains, and preservation contexts, and its
usefulness extends across the digital preservation community.  To quote
one of the nominators: 'It is without a doubt the most significant
publication on any aspect of preservation in the year 2005.  The work is
intellectually sophisticated, groundbreaking, truly collaborative and
international in scope and of great significance for the archival
preservation community.'"

Congratulations to all of us on the working group. The award will be
presented at the SAA annual meeting in Washington on Fri. Aug. 4, 2006.
