The American Library Association seeks a qualified individual to serve
as a lobbyist representing ALA and its legislative and policy positions
on a
variety of issues before the U. S. Congress. The lobbyist will analyze
federal legislation, regulations and administrative activity affecting
libraries, librarians, and library patrons and will assist in developing
strategies for influencing legislation and other decisions affecting
libraries. As part of the ALA lobbying team, the incumbent will also
participate in grassroots organizing and support appropriate ALA
Legislative committees and subcommittees.
The qualified candidate must have a knowledge of federal legislative
Process and excellent political judgment; ability to develop productive
working
relationships with legislators and staff, the media, representatives
From other organizations and ALA members; knowledge of library and
related
legislation; ability to work in a highly fluid environment under special
stresses. Must possess excellent written and oral communications skills.
Library Service degree preferred but not required with at least 2 years
experience in legislative or related policy arena.
