REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of current standards and
practices in the acquisition of electronic resources. Activities
in at least some of the following areas are required: reviewing
and identifying issues with licenses; an understanding of issues
and practices related to copyright and intellectual property;
familiarity with trends in serials management and electronic
resources publishing; archiving and preservation of electronic
resources; troubleshooting access problems; and collection
development issues related to electronic resources.
Familiarity with technical and legal issues in the delivery of
digital information, vendor relations, and trends in scholarly
publishing.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal
skills.
Ability to work effectively across organization lines in
collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in
a dynamic, team based, academic and technological environment.
Aptitude for detail oriented work, including strong analytic and
problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to exercise
individual initiative.
Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and relational
database programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Access or MySQL.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with the language and methods used in the negotiation

Experience with acquisitions operations in an integrated library
system.
Familiarity with initiatives to enhance access to electronic

Principal duties:
This position will work closely with Licensed Resources staff on
activities associated with the acquisition of electronic
resources for the General Library System. Primary
responsibilities include assistance in evaluation, review, and
negotiations for licensed resources; maintenance of a central
repository of information on licenses; development and
documentation of policies and procedures relating to licensing
electronic resources; acquisition, processing, payment, renewal
and cancellation processes for electronic resources utilizing an
integrated library system (Endeavor Voyager) and a link resolver
(ExLibris SFX); and the activation and troubleshooting of
electronic resources.
Additional Information:
The University of Wisconsin - Madison, General Library System is
accepting applications for the full-time academic staff position
of Assistant Electronic Resources Acquisitions Librarian in the
Acquisitions Department. The title of Associate Academic
Librarian or Academic Librarian will be assigned depending on the
credentials of the successful candidate. Benefits include 22
vacation days, sick leave, group health insurance, life
insurance, and a state retirement plan.
This position is one of 4 staff positions that make up the
Licensed Resources Unit. The Licensed Resources Unit manages more
than $2 million worth of electronic resources per year. It is one
of 6 units within the Acquisitions Department of the Central
Technical Services Division which serves 14 libraries comprising
the General Library System. This position reports to the Head of
the Licensed Resources Unit and works closely with staff in
Central Technical Services, the Library Technology Group, and
member libraries. A period of evaluation will be required
