I'm in the process of mapping a collection of locally created legacy
metadata into MODS (well, the descriptive metadata is going into
MODS).  The materials described are all related to the study of
oceanography and because of this specialization, there are several
discipline specific authority sources used for subject terms which are
not listed in the source code list referenced from the MODS guidelines
(http://www.loc.gov/marc/sourcecode/subject/subjectsource.html).

For example, the International Hydrographic Organization Limits of
Oceans and Seas:
http://ioc.unesco.org/oceanteacher/oceanteacher2/01_GlobOcToday/03_GeopolOc/OceansSeas.htm

Also less domain specific, but still unlisted, the Alexandria Digital
Library Gazetteer:
http://middleware.alexandria.ucsb.edu/client/gaz/adl/index.jsp

My question is: is there a good (or "less bad") way of referencing
authority sources that are not included in the MARC source code list?
