Title: Associate State Librarian
(Director, Library for the Blind and Handicapped)
Salary Range: starting $70,000
Location: NJ Library for the Blind and Handicapped, Trenton
Description:
Reporting to the New Jersey State Librarian, the Associate State Librarian manages the staff and
services of the state's public library for individuals with print disabilities. Oversees all areas of
the program operation including, but not limited to, providing braille, talking books, large print,
and radio reading services to eligible individuals, support services to deaf and hard of hearing
communities and the public libraries that serve them, building the multi-media collection,
working with and continuing to develop relationships with other state agencies serving the
disabled. The Library for the Blind and Handicapped has a staff of 30 and an annual budget of
over $1.6 million.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Library Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library
Association, or possession of eligibility for a valid certificate as a professional librarian issued by
Thomas Edison State College.
Five years experience as a professional librarian with three years management experience,
serving individuals with print disabilities preferred.
