Hello,
We may have the same issue in the near future, with one of our very
detailed paper finding aids at 1178 pages. This is a brainstorm, I'd
like to see what others think:
- Very large EAD file is indexed by a native XML database (I've been
looking at eXist because it is open source and there are PHP functions
written to query it)
- PHP uses pre-configured XQuery statements to return ONLY the sections
the user needs, based on a dynamic 'table of contents' (generated from
the same EAD file, indexed in the same XML database)
- XSLT turns the returned results (presumably only portions of the EAD
file) into HTML.
The native XML database is something I've discovered recently but seems
to have been around for a while. Has anyone any experience with them?
They are meant to index the relationships inherent in the XML file's
structure, treating it more like a database table than a document.
Thanks in advance for any input.
