I forward the message below to the JAC list. This means that the current
process is finalized, and we will pick it up again when/if a proposal for
639-3 registration is submitted.

Best regards,
Håvard

Subject: Re: ISO 639 encoding proposal: Resian

Dear Sir,

on suggestion of the editor of ISO 639-3 I already prepared a draft request
according to the ISO 639-3 prerequisites. I circulated this draft among
Slovene linguists by th end of June, causing a minor earthquake, followed by
much debate in the press and in political circles.

During the coming autumn I hope to have meetings with my Slovene colleagues
in order to clear up some misunderstandings and gain their support for the
request.

So now it is me who is causing a delay: could I ask you to stop processing
the request until some kind of consensus has been reached within Slovene
linguistic circles?

After that, I would very much like to see to request processed, because also
a clear and loud "No" from the JAC would be a positive result for me.
It was the IETF-languages list who suggested me to go through the ISO
639-2 process, because there was reluctance there to add, under RTF 3066
regime, further subtags to "sl-rozaj" without knowing the position of the
JAC in this matter.

With kind regards,

Han Steenwijk
