I think that in such cases one ought to keep in mind the previous
practice that, if one is revising the *heading* (not the record) for
some required reason, one may then add dates.
As has alrerady been said on this list, database maintenance personnel
world-wide will thank you for your restraint.

If a personal name heading has only a death date, but a cataloger nows
the birth date, may the heading be modified to include both dates?
