Machines and Accessories Report No. 06-08
Date: November 17, 2006
Subject: Playback machine disposal
Recently Lodestar Recovery Inc., the machine-disposal contractor in Jamestown,
North Carolina, informed NLS that it has been receiving equipment and material for
disposal that are not covered under the NLS playback machine-disposal contract.
They have such items as a box of old magazines, recorded book tapes, a large
volume of braille books, a braille writer, and American Printing House playback
machines. Return addresses on the shipping cartons indicate shipments have come
from network libraries and patrons.
NLS asks all cooperating network libraries to remind their staffs to ship only CBMs
and TBMs to Lodestar. All other items are unauthorized for disposal by Lodestar
and will be returned to you. Patrons are not authorized to use this facility and should
not be given this address. Continuing to ship unauthorized items to Lodestar will
result in NLS action.
We appreciate your cooperation in eliminating the shipping of unauthorized items to
Lodestar. If you are not sure what to do with program property, please contact the
NLS equipment control officer.
