Function Interest Group are sponsoring a Forum at the ALA Midwinter
Meeting in Seattle on Saturday, January 20, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the
Sheraton Metropolitan B.
This Forum is an opportunity to hear about the Non-English Access report
and the work of the Task Force, to ask questions of Task Force members
in person, and to comment on the recommendations of the report. Please
join us for this opportunity to influence future access to non-English
materials.
The Task Force: Beth Picknally Camden (Chair), Joan Aliprand, Diana M.
Brooking, Karen Coyle, Ann Della Porta, Shi Deng, William J. Kopycki,
Heidi G. Lerner, Kristin Lindlan, Sally H. McCallum, David N. Nelson,
Glenn Patton, and Karen Smith-Yoshimura
Background: The ALCTS Task Force on Non-English Access was charged in
October 2005 by the ALCTS Board of Directors to review past and current
activities in providing access to materials in non-English languages,
and make recommendations for future actions by ALCTS and others. The
resulting report includes recommendations for specific actions
concerning technical specifications, cataloging guidelines, continuing
education, communication, and staffing. The report is available on the
ALCTS website: www.ala.org/alcts.
The Forum will be followed by a brief business meeting for the Catalog
Form and Function Interest Group. Business topics will include the
election of a new vice-chair.
