Hi, Jenn.  Have you seen this: 
http://www.nlc.state.ne.us/nebraskamemories/metadata.pdf?  It's for Dublin 
Core, not MODS, but I think the documentation is pretty good.  I came 
across it searching for information on recording geographic coordinates.
