ArchivMusic was written about in Stereophile a couple months ago.
This is a very good idea, if they can make money at that price point. EMI and BMG/Sony have smartly
decided that it's better to sell a few dozen from the archives than none from the archives per
quarter. Since most of these digital masters were probably made previously, with the CD's now out of
print, it's a dirt-cheap way to get a small but steady revenue stream.
My experience with one-off CD's is they are fine if they're done by a reputable place, but best
practice is to make a copy and keep the original somewhere safe.
