POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - MONOGRAPHIC CATALOGER - Two Positions (Tenure-Track)

The University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries invites applications from
motivated and innovative librarians to perform original monographic
cataloging. As the largest research library in the Rocky Mountain region,
the University Libraries is committed to providing access to all types of
materials in conformance with national standards and to advancing the field
through active service, inquiry, and participation in cooperative programs.
These positions are responsible for performing original and complex copy
cataloging to support the University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries'
collections. One position is designated for the Monographic Cataloging
Team; the second is designated for the Special Collections and Archives
Cataloging Team. Cataloging is performed in OCLC for inclusion in the local
Innovative Interfaces system and in Prospector, the regional online catalog.
As an original cataloger in the Cataloging and Metadata Services Department,
the Monographic Cataloger participates in the Program for Cooperative
Cataloging (PCC, NACO, SACO and BIBCO) and OCLC Enhance. In furtherance of
the Libraries' mission and departmental goals, the Monographic Cataloger may
teach other department catalogers. The Monographic Cataloger is a member of
the tenure-stream Libraries' faculty. Significant parts of the
responsibilities of these positions are scholarly activity and creative work
and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of
Colorado at Boulder.
Requirements
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school prior to the date of
appointment with coursework in cataloging and metadata; knowledge of MARC
bibliographic and authorities formats; bibliographic knowledge of at least
one non-English language; effective oral and written communication skills;
potential for scholarly activity and creative work and service.
Desirable Qualifications
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy: experience with a
national cooperative cataloging program such as PCC (NACO, BIBCO, or SACO)
and OCLC Enhance; experience with cataloging any of a variety of materials
or formats (rare books, government publications, videos/DVDs, electronic);
knowledge of and interest in current issues, trends, and emerging standards
in cataloging; experience in an academic library; experience working in a
collaborative environment; demonstrated initiative investigating new ideas
and implementing change; evidence of scholarly activity and creative work
and service.
Appointment and Salary
The successful candidates will be appointed as full-time (12 month)
tenure-stream faculty members. Depending upon demonstrated accomplishments
in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointments will be at
the senior instructor, assistant professor, or associate professor level.
Starting salary range will be $40,000 to $45,000. Benefits include 22
working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university
group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity,
and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are
eligible for sabbatical leave.
