_Description of Work_
Plan, manage, and provide direct support for computer technologies used at the Library for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped (LBPH). Ensure staff have reliable access to Keystone Library Automation
System (KLAS), Internet resources, Microsoft Office, specialized applications, and local area network
services, such as email. Administer KLAS System, including Online Public Access Catalog, cataloging,
holdings, circulation, patron services, serials, equipment, and administration modules. Maintain the digital
recording system meeting national standards. Install, set up, maintain and troubleshoot local area network,
storage area network, microcomputer hardware and peripherals, software applications and adaptive
technologies, such as braille and speech output and screen enlargement devices. Advise staff and library
users on access to library online resources using various adaptive technologies. Maintain and troubleshoot
automated aspects of security system. Maintain and update the LBPH website. For internal purposes,
meet ESC requirements as of 6/14/2007.
_Knowledge, Skills and Abilities_
Considerable knowledge of professional library/information science principles, methods, and practices.
Extensive knowledge of online integrated library systems; bibliographic and authority records; and
relational databases. Extensive knowledge of LAN, SAN, and microcomputer hardware and software
technology, trends, and issues. Ability to effectively assess, use, install, maintain and troubleshoot a wide
variety of computer hardware and software, including microcomputer, LAN SAN, digital recording, and
adaptive technologies and library and database software. Highly-motivated, self-directed individual able to
work in a team environment. Active listening, effective oral and written communications, and interpersonal
skills required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state library staff,
library users, technology vendors, etc.
_Training and Experience Requirements_
A master's degree in library science and one year of experience as a librarian; or graduation from a four-
year college or university supplemented by thirty semester hours in library science and two years experience
as a librarian; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Prefer additional directly related
education, training and experience as specified in the description of work and knowledge, skills and abilities
sections above. Interviewing supervisor is Francine Martin.
