   The Silent Spring of Rachel Carson:
   The Contributions and Legacy of the Founder of the Modern Environmental
   Movement


The Department of the Interior Library, in cooperation with the Department
of the Interior Museum and Rachel Carson Council will host a special
showing of the 1963 CBS Reports documentary The Silent Spring of Rachel
Carson in the Sidney R. Yates Auditorium at the Main Interior Building on
Tuesday, September 11th at 10:00 am.  This documentary is widely
acknowledged with bringing into the forefront her widely acclaimed book
Silent Spring and the dangers of pesticides in America.

Following the documentary, a discussion featuring Cornell University
Professor of Ecology and Agricultural Sciences Dr. David Pimentel (author
of The Pesticide Question: Integrating Environment, Conservation, and
Health) and Fish and Wildlife Service Chief Historian Dr. Mark Madison will
look at Carson’s continuing relevance and impact on the modern
environmental movement 100 years after her birth.

All are welcome to attend, government and general public.  The Sidney R.
Yates Auditorium is just off the public, C Street lobby entrance to the
Main Interior Building, located at 1849 C Street, NW, Room 1151 in
