This talk will introduce the audience to Web 2.0 design and development philosophies (the 8 core patterns of Web 2.0), provide a live demo/walkthrough of some popular web 2.0 sites and explain their value proposition, then discuss the security and risk management implications, including policy and technical threats and opportunities. The talk will conclude with a demonstration of a few "widgets," which are lightweight mini-applications loosely coupled with backend data sources and web services. Peppered throughout will be ideas and best practices that the library sciences community can utilize to offer their constituents a richer online experience.
