Subject : Patron verification for the download pilot
If you are notified that a patron has been rejected from the expanded download pilot
(Operations Alert 07-22), please take the following steps:
1. Ensure that you have a certified application for the patron and that he or she is
active in your circulation system.
2. If the patron is active, then check his or her status in CMLS.
a. If the individual is not listed in CMLS, log on to NLS Webnet and add the required
information. Please enter DDB9 as the publication code.
b. If the patron's record is not current, please update the information in Webnet, again
entering DDB9 as the publication code, and instruct the patron to wait until further
notice.
Updates are made weekly with all changes displaying by Friday morning.
If you do not have any records for a patron, the individual must submit a properly
certified application for service, and the library should follow step 2a.
4. Once you verify the patron's status as active in CMLS via Webnet, you may then
notify the party via e-mail that he or she may reapply to the download pilot. After the
individual reapplies and is verified on CMLS, you will receive an e-mail confirming
his or her acceptance into the download pilot.
Please be reminded that it is important to enter the publication codes for patrons using
the electronic services DDB9 for the download pilot and WBB1 for Web-Braille into
your circulation systems to ensure they will be reflected in CMLS. The codes are used
to determine the number of patrons a library serves, as well as the number accessing
online services. The records also ensure that patrons maintain an active status.
All download-related e-mail messages are numbered sequentially for each library. If
you receive an out-of-sequence message, please contact [log in to unmask] with
the missing sequence number(s) and the notification(s) will be sent again. Please note
that the sequential notices for the download pilot are different than the sequential
messages from the web form Talking Books: To Request More Information (Helen).
E-mail messages generated by the download web site come from NLS via
[log in to unmask] If you suspect that your system may be filtering the messages as
spam, enter the name and address in your e-mail address book. If adding the entry
does not solve the problem, please consult your technical support resources.
