Thing is, there was another novel (and I don't remember the author, either)
in which the telepaths were female twins, one preparing for the spaceflight,
the other to stay earthside.
One of the twins gets hurt in an accident, and it's not until there is a big
problem in the flight that the twins own up to the fact that it was the one
preparing for the flight that had been hurt.
Sorry I can't remember the author.
