It is worth noting that the preface to the 1991 edition contains the
following:
"Some of [the report's] recommendations have been superseded by more
recent research.
Its specifications for use and design of preservation shelves, and
its recommendations for
aging and selective erasure of tapes, and coating of discs with
ethylene glycol during playback
are now considered obsolete. Wise readers will supplement their use
of this work with readings
drawn from more recent sources and will implement the report's
recommendations judiciously (p. iii)."
